About Netlify
Netlify is a modern web development platform that automates builds, deployments, and scaling for JAMstack applications.
About the role
Developers tend to trust other developers more than they trust marketing pages. That is why our Developer Relations team exists: five advocates who build demos, write tutorials, speak at meetups and bring honest feedback back to the product team.
We are hiring a Developer Advocate based in San Francisco to focus on web frameworks and edge functions. You will spend roughly half your time creating content and the other half talking to developers, both online and in person.
What you’ll do
- Build example projects and starter templates that people actually clone and use.
- Write two to three technical articles a month for our blog and partner publications.
- Speak at events. In 2027 we expect about eight conferences and a dozen local meetups, with travel capped at 25% of your time.
- Run community programs:
- a monthly live stream with guests from the community
- office hours on our forum every Thursday from 10:00 to 11:30 PT
- feedback sessions with product managers, where you share what you heard
- Track what works, using a small set of numbers such as template deploys and forum answers, not vanity metrics.
What we’re looking for
- At least three years as a working software engineer, with real experience in a modern JavaScript framework.
- A portfolio of public work: talks, articles, videos or open source projects. Quality matters more than volume.
- Comfort explaining technical ideas to very different audiences, from students to staff engineers.
- Good judgement about when to say “this is a limitation of our product” instead of hiding it.
Nice to have
- Experience organising meetups or running a community.
- Video editing skills, or at least strong opinions about audio quality.
- Spanish, French or Japanese, which would help us reach communities we currently serve poorly.
Compensation and benefits
- Base salary of $150k–$180k, plus equity and an annual bonus.
- Unlimited PTO with a required minimum of 20 days a year, which we actually track.
- Medical, dental and vision coverage, 100% paid for employees and 80% for dependants.
- A $2,000/year budget for equipment and learning, separate from conference travel.
- Hybrid: the office in SoMa is open every day and the DevRel team meets in person on Wednesdays.
How to apply
Send your CV along with links to two pieces of public work you are proud of. Tell us briefly why you chose them. If you have not done public speaking before but have written a lot, that is fine. Mention it in your note.
The process:
- A 30-minute call with the head of Developer Relations.
- A 20-minute presentation on a technical topic of your choice, followed by questions.
- Conversations with an engineer and a product manager.
We will close applications on 1 December 2026. You might also want to browse the HireWise blog for interview advice or look at other marketing and community roles.
